The Ikarian centre in Arethousa gets busy in the morning with the first gathering of the group.
Mihalis is the head of the project and owner of the language school. He breaks the ice and let volunteers and locals to get to know each other over a delicious Greek breakfast. Everyone is very excited and can’t wait to start working on the path.
The group leaves the place around 10 and goes on patrol. The first walk to discover and plan about the routes to choose at first looks long and full of natural adversities. Ikaria is still rough and wild and so this path.
As soon as the volunteers starts walking down from Arethousa, something seems to change. It is interesting how people from all over the world, with different ages and backgrounds, can bound together in such a quick way. Everyone works hard but smiles and joyful moods create a beautiful atmosphere.
Hours go by and the group reaches the bottom of the pathways in about 3 hours. There is a lot to do and everyone is looking forward for the next day – after a coffee and a well deserved rest!
